Scanning a Big Cat
On the 18th of January Imotek provided a portable Mylab Gamma ultrasound system to Paignton Zoo so that they could use it to scan a poorly Cheetah, the fastest land animal on earth. (They have been recorded at 68.0–75.0 mph).
Imotek were asked if they could help by Tom Cave from Cave Veterinary Specialists. Cave Referrals try to help the Zoo whenever there expert skills may be of assistance to the onsite veterinary team.
Philip Strom, the most recent member to join Cave Veterinary Specialists performed the scan using the Imotek Mylab Gamma system. Phil is an American Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Not only does Phil have considerable imaging knowledge but he is also one of the privilege few that have previously performed scans on big wild cats.
The 11 year old Cheetah called Kisai has been suffering from weight loss in recent months so a scan was necessary to try and find out why he was losing weight. We were pleased to say that the scan went without complications.
