C-SCAN MRI INSTALL
Imotek International Ltd. is proud to announce the successful installation of the Esaote C-Scan Extremity MRI in to the Rheumatology department at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds. The machine was kindly funded through an equipment grant from the Arthritis Research Campaign.
Professor Conaghan, Consultant Rheumatologist, and Dr Freeston, Specialist Registrar and Research Fellow in Rheumatology are quoted as saying, “We chose the C-Scan because of the image quality and its wide field of view for an extremity machine. The system was also desirable as it does not require the on going purchase of any expensive consumables such as liquid nitrogen”.
The Esaote C-Scan is a dedicated extremity MRI system able to provide MR images of the hand, wrist, elbow, knee, ankle and foot. The Rheumatology department will use the C-Scan for work in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. It will also be used for other projects which will be in collaboration with their musculoskeletal radiologists. They will be focusing primarily on scanning small joints such as the MCP (Metacarpophalangeal), and MTP, (Metatarsophalangeal) joints and are hoping to start knee studies in the near future. The studies will be looking at both patients newly diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (aiming to predict their therapeutic needs) as well as those with established disease. In osteoarthritis, they will be correlating pathology on imaging with pain and therapeutic response.
Imoteks’ general manager Mike Showell is quoted as saying “Imotek is delighted with the recent install in such a prominent Rheumatology department such as Chapel Allerton. This is the first C-scan system to be installed in the UK specifically for Rheumatology we are sure it will prove to be an effective tool in the fight against arthritic disease”.
